Origin story
Why I created TackWallet
There was no solution that was meticulously designed with couples in mind.
The Problem
TackWallet was born out of a personal need.My partner and I entered a phase where we wanted to be more transparent about our finances. At this point, we had very different ways of tracking where our money went and had conflicting views on saving and investing.We quickly realized that it was going to be tough to religiously stay on track if we had to log each and every expense as it happened.In an effort to lessen the burden, we tried looking at the existing couple budgeting options. What we found, although they were feature-rich and well-built, were apps that were too... corporate, too official, and, for lack of a better term, too robotic.To make matters worse, these apps required us to either connect to our bank accounts or manually input every single line item. Both of which, we were too apprehensive to comply with.
The lightbulb moment
At that time, I built a DIY solution in a spreadsheet, where all we had to do was to copy paste our transactions from our banks' CSV file exports. It was easy to catch up after being behind for months. It was also simpler to see how we were doing, thanks to a joint dashboard that we, as a couple, could understand and relate to.And that's where the idea came.What if there was a personal finance app that was designed for couples and partners? One that was extra-low effort with no need to manually categorize expenses and income sources? One that just made financial planning for couples and partners easy?
What if there was an app that, all you had to do was upload your CSV, and you were done?
And that’s how TackWallet came to be.
